RUSSIAN -UKRAINE WAR –

65 Ukrainian POWs on board killed

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has leveled serious accusations against Russia, claiming that the country is recklessly toying with the lives of Ukrainian prisoners following the tragic crash of a military transport plane.Everyday Russian Ukraine War is dismantling world peace and economy more and more .

The Ilyushin Il-76 went down in the Russian border region of Belgorod, resulting in the loss of all lives on board, including 65 Ukrainian prisoners of war (POWs), six Russian crew members, and three Russian soldiers.

Zelenskyy, in a stern address, expressed the gravity of the situation, stating, “It is obvious that the Russians are playing with the lives of Ukrainian prisoners, with the feelings of their relatives and with the emotions of our society.”

Despite refraining from confirming or denying Russia’s claims, he acknowledged the day as “very difficult” and emphasized the imperative to establish clear facts, acknowledging the challenging circumstances as the incident occurred on Russian territory.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defence, the plane was allegedly hit during its journey from a military aerodrome near Moscow to Belgorod.

Russia contends that the 65 Ukrainian POWs were en route for a prisoner swap, along with the Russian crew and soldiers. The ministry claimed radar detection of two Ukrainian missile launches, although no concrete evidence accompanied the assertion.

In response, the Ukrainian military noted additional Russian military transport aircraft landing in Belgorod, linking this to ongoing Russian missile strikes on Kharkiv and other Ukrainian cities.

Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk asserted Ukraine’s right to defend itself against aggressors’ aerial attacks, escalating the tensions between the two nations.

The Kremlin has initiated an investigation into the plane crash, while Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov calls for an urgent United Nations Security Council meeting to probe what Russia terms a “Ukrainian criminal act.”

A French spokesperson at the UN confirms the meeting, scheduled for 5 pm on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the proposed prisoner exchange hangs in the balance. Ukrainian military intelligence highlights a lack of communication regarding airspace security around Belgorod, in contrast to previous swaps.

They express suspicions of planned and deliberate actions by Russia to destabilize Ukraine and undermine international support.

Regional Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov reports investigators and emergency workers already on-site in the Korochansky district in Belgorod Oblast, confirming the tragic outcome of the crash.

The Ilyushin Il-76, designed for troop airlift and cargo transportation, usually accommodating up to 90 passengers, adds to the complexity of the situation.

Recent Russian aerial assaults have  further heightened the geopolitical tensions, echoing past accusations of terrorist attacks and civilian casualties between the two nations.

In the midst of uncertainty, Zelenskyy calls for an international investigation into the crash, while Ukraine’s intelligence agencies scramble for reliable information on the incident and the occupants of the ill-fated plane.
