Fuel Subsidy for Cars: Who Qualifies and How Much Is Available?

Cars are part of Pakistan’s 2026 fuel relief scheme too — but only a narrow slice of them. Here’s who actually qualifies and what the subsidy is worth if you do.

Which Cars Qualify

Two conditions, and a car needs to clear both:

• Engine capacity of 800cc or under. Anything larger doesn’t qualify, no exceptions based on how the car is used.
• Registered on or after January 1, 2006. A car that technically fits the 800cc bracket but was registered before that date is still excluded.

In practice, that means older or larger vehicles are out — this is aimed squarely at small, older-model cars, not the broader driving population.

How Much You Can Get

Qualifying cars receive Rs100 off per litre, on up to 30 litres a month. That works out to a maximum of Rs3,000 in monthly relief if you use the full allowance.

The discount applies at the pump, not as a separate payment — you show your token, the attendant verifies it, and the reduced price is what you actually pay.

How the Tokens Work

You don’t draw the full 30 litres in one go. Fuel comes through tokens, and each car token covers 10 litres. That means three tokens gets you to the full monthly cap (10 × 3 = 30 litres, Rs1,000 relief per token).

Tokens are valid for 10 days from when you generate them. If one expires before you use it, you’ll need to request another — unused litres don’t carry over into a new token.

Registering Your Car

Registration is done entirely by SMS, no office visit needed. You’ll need your CNIC, your car’s registration details, and a SIM registered in your own name.

Step 1 — Register. Text this to 9771:

For example: REG 1234512345671 ABC-123 P 15062019, with the date written as DDMMYYYY.

Province codes: I (Islamabad), A (AJK), G (Gilgit-Baltistan), S (Sindh), P (Punjab), K (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa), B (Balochistan) — use the province where the car is registered, not necessarily where you live.

Step 2 — Get a token when you need fuel. Text TOK to 9771. You’ll receive a 10-litre token valid for 10 days. Take it to a participating station to redeem the discount.

Common Reasons Registration Fails

Almost all rejections come down to a mismatch somewhere: a CNIC typo, the wrong province code, a registration date that doesn’t match your car’s actual paperwork, or a SIM registered to someone other than you. The system checks CNIC, telecom, and vehicle records against each other, so double-checking these details before you text saves a second attempt.

When Redemption Starts

Registration for cars is open nationwide right now. Actual fuel redemption outside Islamabad — where the scheme first launched — begins at 11:59pm on September 16, 2026, extending to the rest of the country including AJK and Gilgit-Baltistan.
